Great British Sewing Bee 2022 - What to Expect

It's spring time and that only means one thing! A new season of The Great British Sewing Bee!

It's too soon to know which machine they'll be using, but if I had to guess I would think they would continue to use the computerised Janome 780DC which was their machine of choice in the 2021 series; Which had taken over from the previous years mechanical 725S.

This is a pretty great upgrade, boasting an additional 55 utility stitches for a total of 80! As well as a lot of other quality of life features, such as an automatic thread cutter and 3 styles of 1 step buttonhole! All of these combined should lead to a pretty dramatic increase in options for the contestants of the sewing bee, which we DID see last year!

If the show was going to change machine, and I had to take a guess as to the machine that would accompany the show this year, I think that my guess would be the DKS100. This would give the sewers an additional 20 stitches and 3 styles of buttonhole on top of almost the same feature set as the 780DC, making it a great logical step up from the 780DC, but only time will tell!

New host

Sewing machines aside, A major change to this seasons programming will be the replacement of last years comedian host Joe Lycett with fellow panel show regular Sara Pascoe.

Joe wrote, "A bit of news: I loved my journey on @sewingbee but I’ve decided it is time for me to go." Following with,

"My friend the great @sarapascoe will be the new host and I know she will be fantastic."

Although not known for her sewing knowledge, Sara will more than likely be the personality of the show much like Joe allowing judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young to be the brains of the operation, a dynamic that has worked quite well for them; Joe's seasons being the most popular the show has ever been!
